Welcome to Year 3!

Maths

This term in Maths we are learning about Place Value.

We use White Rose maths to support our planning. Please practice the following times tables with your child at home. 2’s, 5’s, 10’s, 3’s, 4’s and 8’s.

Reading Masters

This is the lesson in which we practice and develop our reading skills. The children are taught a text each week which is either fictional, non-fiction or a poem. This is to aid their retrieval, vocabulary, and inference skills. We use four dogs to help us with this. Can your child remember each of the dogs’ names?

Writing

When writing in year 3, we aim to show good presentation and handwriting. We have a 10-day plan which helps us to also focus on vocabulary and grammar. Each unit we teach focuses on a genre of writing which allows the children to create an excellent written outcome at the end of the second week.

History

Science

This term in science, we will be learning about what animals and humans need to eat to have a healthy diet. We will also learn more about skeletons. Please see the knowledge organiser below which includes all the key information we will discuss.

• PE is every Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on these two days.
• Spellings will be handed out every Friday and tested the following Friday.
• Reading Books and records are needed in school every day. Please encourage your child to read at least 3 times a week. Children receive Dojo points for watch time their book is signed by an adult. 
• Times table are practised each day after lunch. Please remember to practise using the link below.
